Today the husband did a little bit of planning around the practicalities of what we will need to get bought in for Kip’s arrival. Although I’m only 25 weeks I’m quite conscious that all this blood pressure stuff might mean they encourage him out early. Not for a while yet I hope, but still best to be sorting some of this stuff out.

I bought this baby outfit a few weeks back because it was cute and lovely. But it is really most suitable for a girl baby. At this point we don’t know if we are having a girl or a boy.

Since the embryo was replaced within me, we’ve called the future baby ‘Kipling’ and we’ve referred to Kipling as a he.

Today the husband took me out for lunch, as a little practice so I can hopefully eat out with friends at some point soon. It went OK. I had a steak sandwich and fries and it was huge, but the husband kindly offered to take half of the sandwich onto his plate until I was ready to eat it so it didn’t scare me. He suggested if in doubt I could ask for a small portion in the future. Anyway that all went fine, and I had a meringue and cream which was yumsk.

Later we went to Mothercare, our first time. They have all sorts of reasonably priced baby items, and we saw a lot that we liked. We’ll go back and stock up some time.

This morning the husband and I went to an NCT ‘nearly new’ sale to see if there was anything to buy.  We came away with a box set of Mr Man books, but generally decided that we didn’t want some other baby’s smelly old vomit-stained stuff.  I’d been told by a friend that it was a good idea to get second hand things because babies grow so quickly, but having seen some ‘nearly new’ things the husband and I have decided we’d rather get new stuff from Tescos or Argos for the ‘disposable’ clothes and equipment.  Anyway, we’re not particularly short on money and it is nice for us to choose what we want rather than just taking what there is.

Today the husband and I went up to John Lewis to look at all the baby things, to try and get ourselves into the mindset that in six months’ time we will have a baby.  We enjoyed looking at all of the things, many of them adorable.  We were surprised how reasonably priced a lot of the furniture and so on was and we’ll look at buying some of that soon.  We picked up some helpful leaflets outlining the things we might need.

A lot of the baby clothes were very gendered, and we’re not keen on that sort of thing.

But we did find and buy one cute gender-neutral outfit.

The husband thinks it looks tiny, but I look at it and wonder how I will grow something as big as that inside me and then push it out!

Either way it makes me smile to look at it.
