Today is the first day of the two week wait.  This is the day that my eggs would be fertilised if they were not fertilised already.  My fertilised eggs were kept out of me in the test tube for six days, hence as they are already six days old they’ll not put them back in til Thursday.

As of today I’m on a new drugs regime, in preparation for the frozen embryo transfer on Thursday.  Folic acid and HRT as before, plus progesterone.  The progesterone is a pessary that I have to stick up my vajayjay twice a day.  I don’t seem to have any side effects, but it does drip out as a white waxy paste and is quite messy and gross.

I’m all about evaluation, and I thought it might be interesting to generate some stats and reflections on my first IVF cycle.

2013-03-16

So when the eggs have been collected and fertilised they are placed back into the womb on either day 2, 3 or 5. I’m on day 3 today, and I was told that the IVF clinic would call me this morning and let me know if I needed to come in today or if it would be on day 5.

2013-03-14

I’ve been feeling OK since I wrote about the egg retrieval yesterday. Uncomfortable, I would say, sort of feeling a bit stiff and bruised inside. I didn’t take any painkillers though as I didn’t interpret the feeling as a pain, I more just couldn’t get settled. I did, however, go to the theatre. Well we already had tickets booked and I felt alright. It was fine, a bit uncomfortable to sit in one position for a long time but entirely bearable. Shh… don’t tell the nurses I went out.

2013-03-13

Today was the day of our egg retrieval procedure.

My husband drove me up to the hospital this morning and we got there just before 8am. We were taken through to a day surgery ward and settled into a curtained off bed in a ward with maybe four others.
